Tabs in multiple row, how do I ?

Hi folks,

When you have multiple tabs open in one tab group, by default if they do not fit on a single row, Intellij will break them into two rows, which is fine for me.

The single row option in the settings is not too good when it comes to userability.

However I find it extremely confusing when switching tabs in such a tab group is that switching from a tab in the lower row ( which always have the active one ) to one in the upper row makes the upper row move down, and the lower row up.

What I find confusing is that this behaviour doesn't allow me to easily organize and keep track of all my opened files.  It requires me analyzing the tabs.

Is the file I am after in the lower tab now, or is it in the upper one? Looking, where is it? Can't find it! What was the name of it? Damn!! Irritation! Annoying! If the file names are similarly named it's not rare that I end up editing the wrong file.

Since an active tab is highlighted anyway, I would like a switch between the tabs in the lower to a tab in the upper row not to reorganize my rows. Tabs in a tab group should have a consistent order.

This would allow for more consistency and I would be able to organize them and find them by memory and organization rather than eye inspection and filename recognition.

Is there a setting for this? If not, there should be...

Cheers, Hamidam
